Everything you can do with DuckTracks

Tag a duck, track every mile, leave a message for the next finder, and follow along as strangers write the rest of its story. Here's the whole app, as of version 2.5.

Scan and pass

Every duck starts with a scan

  • Scan to claimPoint the app at a duck's QR tag to become its current holder. The stop is added to its journey map.
  • Leave a message for the next finderWhen you pass a duck on, write a personal note. Whoever scans it next reads your message first. Make it private if you'd rather only they see it.
  • Set up a whole batch at onceScan several new tags in a row, then name each duck, write its bio, and add a photo on one screen before activating them together. Pass several ducks at once too.
  • Works without signalScans, claims, and passes made offline are saved on your phone and sent the moment you're back online, which helps on cruise ships and backroads.
  • Friendly remindersHolding a duck for a while? A gentle nudge at 5, 14, and 30 days reminds you to send it on its next adventure. Turn it off any time.

Every duck gets a page of its own

  • JourneyA map of every stop the duck has made, connected in order, from its first activation to wherever it is now.
  • WallEveryone who has held the duck can post on its wall with up to four photos. Others can like and comment, just like the feed.
  • PhotosEvery photo of the duck in one gallery. Tap one to see it full screen, like it, and join the comments.
  • Duck StoryA first-person travelogue written from the duck's real journey, on a share card with its photo, miles, stops, states, and the number of hands it has passed through. Post it anywhere; friends scan the code to follow along.
