DuckTracks, LLC ("DuckTracks," "we," "us," or "our") respects your right to control your personal data. This document explains how to request deletion of your account and personal information from DuckTracks.


1. How to Request Account Deletion

Option 1: Email Request

Send an email to support@ducktracks.com with the following:

We will verify your identity (by confirming the request comes from the email address associated with your account) before processing the deletion.

Option 2: In-App Request

If available in the current version of the app:

  1. Open DuckTracks
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Tap Account
  4. Tap Delete Account
  5. Confirm deletion

2. What Gets Deleted

When your account deletion is processed, the following data is permanently removed:

Data Type What Happens
Account credentials Email, password hash, and authentication tokens are permanently deleted
Profile information Name, username, bio, phone number, and social links are permanently deleted
Profile photos Profile photo, cover photo, and gallery photos are deleted from our storage (AWS S3)
Posts Your posts are deleted or anonymized (attributed to "Deleted User")
Comments and replies Your comments are deleted or anonymized
Direct messages Your messages are deleted from your side of conversations
Likes and reactions Your likes on posts and comments are removed
Follow relationships Your followers and following lists are cleared
Group memberships You are removed from all groups
Event RSVPs Your event participation records are removed
Notification preferences Push notification tokens and preferences are deleted
Email preferences You are unsubscribed from all marketing communications
Privacy settings All privacy and account settings are deleted

3. What May Be Retained

Certain data may be retained after account deletion for the following reasons:

Duck journey records (events showing where ducks were passed and found) are part of the collective duck tracking experience. When your account is deleted:

4. Timeline

Account deactivated (no longer accessible) Within 7 days of verification
Data permanently deleted from active systems Within 30 days
Data permanently removed from backups Within 90 days

Total time from request to complete deletion: up to 90 days (30 days for active systems, additional 60 days for backup cycling).

Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Before requesting deletion, please consider the following.

If you want to take a break without permanently losing your data, you can request account deactivation instead:


7. California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to request deletion of your personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). To exercise this right, follow the instructions in Section 1 above. We will process your request within 45 days as required by CCPA.


8. European Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To exercise this right, follow the instructions in Section 1 above. We will process your request within 30 days as required by GDPR.
